No Audio after installing SSD

Hi, yesterday I performed this guide to add an SSD to my iMac

The drive works perfectly, but unfortunately the sound output doesn't work anymore.

Most likely I didn't connect something correctly while reassembling.

But before I open the mac up again, I would like to know where to look. I don't think the speaker connectors are the issue, because, when I look at the sound config in my preferences, I see no 'built in' output, only optical out.

I have to say the performance upgrade is worth it even if I can't get the audio to work again, but it would be nice to get it fixed.

thanks

If you go back and review Steps 20 & 21. I suspect you swapped one of the speaker lines with the microphone.

Thanks for the reply,

You could be right. Guess I'll open it up again tonight.

I had this problem too. The actual culprit is the I/O connector on the step 19, which might seem connected when it's actually barely leaning into the socket.

Apply a little force to assure you've reinserted it all the way in and you're gold.

As a matter of fact, all the connectors in the interested area have different sizes and shapes, so there's really no chance you've inverted some. I.e., the two speakers connector have respectively two and three pins, so you won't end up hearing left from right and right from left. That's really a good design :-)

P.S. It might help also perform NVRAM and SMC reset, after rebooting the iMac
