greyed out wifi iPhone 4

hello.

I have an iphone 4 with greyed out wifi. And im looking to repair it. It does not have warranty on it. so theres no point going to apple. Im just wondering if theres a way i can tell if it is the wifi chip or the wifi antenna thats broken. Because from what iv heard its pretty hard to fix the wifi chip without going to a store or apple.

Cheers

If it was the antenna, then the wifi wouldn't be greyed out , you would just have poor wifi signal. It is likely the chip and will require board level repair.

Tahir Lunat, you did not tell us what happened to the phone. We do not not what events precipitated this failure. In almost all cases a greyed out WiFi means dead or loose WiFi IC. You could try a quick reflow with a heat gun but most likely you will need to replace the WiFi IC.

about a year ago the iphone screen smashed. My dad repaired the screen himself. Everything worked fine apart from the wifi.

Is replacing the wifi ic easy? can I do it my self? How much would it cost. I have about £20 (im only 13 yrs old )

A reflow isn't too hard, you would need a hot air station though. Replacing it is going to be harder, making sure all the contact points are lined up and connected to the board.
