does this work even when it is not plugged in
Hold down both home button and on/off switch for more than 10 seconds, does this work even when it is not plugged in into a charger?

Yes Janelle. .try charging overnight but there's usually enough charge left in batteries to keep date etc going...so doing this it should show some life but may shut down again on a flat battery
