iPod dead Not responding

My ipod classic is not working ..its dead..I hold the home and start but there is no response. Have charged For whole night but it is not responding.also just would like to add that it was working fine and battery got drained and when I was trying to charge it wasn't charging cos my cable was defevctive but whenever I on the charging plug there was slight click noise along with a line on/off on the middle of the screen but now when i changed mt cable I am unable to see any such response please help me m worried as its not at all responsding
