No picture but has sound.

Looking for help please.

My LG 42LH5000 tv switches of i.e the power light goes from red to green. I get sound from the tv but no picture.

I have opend the tv and had a look at the boards. I dont see any obvious blown capacitors on the boards.

I also cant see any lights coming from the tv any where or see faint pictures on the screen if I shine a torch on it. Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance.

Answer this question I have this problem too

My picture would quit after a few minutes after being turned on. Now the picture never comes on but there is audio. Funny thing my friends LG TV di did the exact same thing today. What is wrong with these TVs?

They are LG's and LG stands for Low Grade. Stay away from!

LG seems to stand for Low Grade for almost anything they produce - except cell phones.

Sometimes depending on how dark the LCD is makes it harder to see a picture on it even with a torch, outside, during the day gives best results.

Does the backlight come on moment then off again? If so it is a sign the lcd and backlight still work and that it is just a power issue. If that is the case and the TV uses catodes for the backlight then it could be a transformer on the invertor that can not get to full power and fails to start. Also it is worth noting that caps don't always "pop", electrolytic caps can also dry up internally causing the same affects as a blown cap. So changing them first is your best and cheapest solution.

Okay to break it down, the video controller gives a picture to the screen and the invertor powers the backlights. It is, or at least I have not seen myself both go at the same time unless some kind of catastrophic failure happened and since you didn't mention it, I assume that didn't happen.

The video board also supports sound, so if you have sound then we can assume the video card works.

What is left is the invertor. As I suggested the caps are most likely the issue regardless of how they look. It could also be that one of the backlights has failed but usually you would see discolouration of the screen before that happened.

If you are not comfortable changing the caps then you may be able to find a second hand part for the same tv online but it will definitely cost more than just buying the replacement caps and doing the repair yourself.

Contacting LG for support may also help if you can tolerate it, I have had a couple of faulty screens repaired for free out of warranty. If you don't ask, you won't get.

There does appear to be a back light on mine in that when it comes on the screen does appear minutely lighter.

I have a similar problem, but all my back lights work, I have sound and I replaced the t-con board, but when I turn on the tv I still am not getting an image, any thoughts?
