replacing the LCD screen in the MacBook Air 13" Mid 2011 -A1369

MacBook Air A1369 the screen developed a two inch vertical black band toward the left side of the screen. After watching some videos I thought that I could replace the LCD screen. obtained a Lcd replacement from on E-Bay. I removed the old LCD and tried to install the new LCD. However I am unable to get the backlight to come on. It there anyway that I can test the new LCD panel to ensure that it is working or have received a dead-on-arrival item ?

When I plug in the LVDS cable and turn on the computer even though the backlight does not come on - should I be able to see anything on the LCD panel if I shine a light behind it ? - If nothing is visible would this indicate a bad panel ?

or what components need replacement

I can connect the computer to a monitor and all works well - so the only thing giving a problem is the LCD panel.

Thank you for your assistance...

If it works on an external monitor, it sounds like you got a bum screen. Send it back, get another one and try it again.
