flashes of black and white streaks across screen

What can i do to stop occasional flashes of black and white streaks across the screen? Can this be as a result of the phone being dropped multiple times despite the fact that there is no physical damage or can it be a case of the phone overheating too often? I use it straight through the night very often can this cause the phone to over heat?
