Your system has a Gigabit Ethernet port already, so no you don't need anything in your iMac.

You do need to get Cat 5e cables and have a Gigabit Ethernet hub or switch to connect your other systems to. If you have 100 Megabit or slower devices you'll need a switch which supports mixed speed devices (most do today).
