Is there a way to fix one sided audio

So with my Nexus 7 I have a problem where even if the headphones are plugged in properly, the sound is usually on one side only.

I seem to be able to resolve the issue temporarily by flexing the tablet with a fair amount of force, I reckon I may have caused some damage, not sure.

I have already tried the mod from XDA, and I've also tried putting a piece of folded plastic to act as kind of a spring to press down as well.

Would replacing the audio jack assembly help?
