Hi, I have the same problem. I dropped my Macbook from my bed, it wasn't a hard fall though. Didn't notice anything at the time because it was connected to a TV. But later I noticed the screen flickering, and a gray horizontal line to the far right of the screen.

I did a PRAM reset and the flickering has gone away, but the horizontal line is still there. I tried to take a print screen, but the picture shows the whole screen, without any line.

Does anybody know what that means? Is the only option to do a costly replacement or can I solve it on my own?

Did you bang or drop your system? Also did you place something heavy on the lid?

Most likely you damaged the LCD panel. The electrical connections (tab error) is when the joint between the glass panel and the driver logic has broken away. Sadly, there is no means to fix this, other than replacing the complete display assembly.

I would try resetting the LCD flex cable. it works for us 20% of the time, the other 80% its a new Screen assembly which is about US$300
