My display flickers a little then goes black

Hello!

I was using my laptop and my dog jumped on me and knocked my laptop to the floor. The screen went black but it was still working. I did a hard shutdown and restarted it. When it restarted the normal gray screen came on but it had a loading bar at the bottom like it was setting up for the first time. The screen started to flicker and then went black. I hooked the laptop up to my TV and the computer starts up. The laptop screen comes on at first, gray screen with apple icon (flickers a lot), blue screen, then goes black.

The problem is... I already had the laptop set up for dual display to expand the field (no dock with icons at the bottom in the TV). I can create a folder on the screen and when I did "clean up" some of the stuff on my desktop made it over to the second screen. As a result, I can't see the system preference icon to change the settings. I tried "cmd - space - enter" to open system preferences but I don't know if it worked because it does not show up on the TV screen (external monitor).

What is the best way to approach this? Should I first buy a cable or go straight to a new lcd screen? The glass is not cracked. I wonder if it is the back light or the converter or the whole thing...

Side note: One USB port died a year ago ( I can charge something but no data transfer). Also, when I open new taps in safari, sometimes there is a color glitch so I think the graphics card is starting to fail, the glitch happens so fast and is not consistent that I have not been able to get a screen shot of it.

This laptop has been EXTREMELY durable and has survived numerous falls with no problems. I guess it was just a matter of time.... :(

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

just an update. Now when I turn it on, I hear the HD start up the usual sound of it starting but then nothing. Not even on the external monitor. The blue screen comes for a moment and then flickers away. No idea what is going on...
