iPad screen colours gone pale

The colours on my mum's iPad 2 have suddenly gone paler than they should be. I told her to do a reboot but this hasn't helped. The colours are all correct but just very pale.

We have adjusted the brightness control but that isn't a problem. It is the density of the colour that's gone wrong. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
