Puntured iPhone 5s battery, safe to continue removing?

I have a water damaged iPhone 5s from tea in a thermal flask in a ladys hand bag..

Upon removing/replacing the battery it is super super stuck from the adhesive and now the sugary tea cocktail to go along with it.

I have ripped the battery open a bit, i noticed this potent glue type of smell and feared maybe it was the battery however it could also just be the adhesive?? Im not sure I haven't removed a 5 or 5s battery before. I notice i have ripped the old one open quiet a bit and Its dead flat. Will anything happen if i continue to rip it off as clearly this is the only way it is now going to come off.

Appreciate any help,

Hi jay,

I would recommend putting on some thick gloves and taking the phone outside to finish removing the battery. It may spark or smoke still. Nothing too dangerous though. Just take a long, sturdy metal pry tool and start under the top of the battery, then pry it away a little at a time. Be careful not to scrape into the volume/power button cable under the top of the battery. But everything should be fine, just take your time!

I would get that logic board out of there before proceeding. This way if it does flare up you won't lose the most expensive part. Don't forget googles along with the gloves.
