Formatting hard drive using the "write zeros" option

Firstly what is the "Write Zero" option and how do I go about using this to help me format my hard drive? Ive forgotten the Master Password and want to wipe the hdd (after my backup of course) because it is so full the Mac isn't working to its potential and doing funny things. I know Ive got to clear the cache etc etc but without the password I can reformat the drive and just put back the important stuff from a restore?? Help!!!

HD's & SSD's are different animals! You don't need to isolate out bad blocks a SSD doesn't have them.

OK, let's see if we can get you going here. First you'll need a second Mac to connect your system to using either a FireWire cable or a Thunderbolt cable.

Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode

What we need to do here is setup your system in Target Mode so the other Mac sees your SSD as if was an external drive. Once you gain access to your drive you should be able to reformat the drive if it was FileVault enabled.

If your system still won't let you in then you have a system password set which can't be defeated. You'll need to go to an Apple Store with proof of purchase for them to unlock the BIOS password.
