Black screen but external display works.

Hi,

The screen on my MacBook (Late 2008) does not work. An external display works well. However, when I go to system preferences -> display, it's as though the 13" display does not exist. I have tried removing the battery, and resetting the NVRAM. Any suggestions are welcome

Hi Philip, I have a similar issue: screen is black lighted, but connecting it to a n external monitor it works. even the camera does work actually. Did you solve changing the cable? do you think it was impossible to do at home? thanks

by

Yes, Francesco, replacing the cable, which requires replacing the display, resolved the issue. This task can be done at home. However, I would not care to attempt the task myself. Good luck,

You can try disconnecting the display cable and reconnecting it. It's step 9 in this guide:

Thanks Michael. It turns out that the cable was damaged and must be replaced. I am going to let a professional do it.
