It is depends of your device, see the tear down section and follow the instruction until the home button removed.

If you not familiar with this friendly-UI website, you can use the search box at the upper right corner, just write the device you have, and the result contains everything (repair manuals, teardowns, questions, etc).

This is the closest guide we have for that process, but we do not have a guide for separating the home button from ribbon cable.

Hope this isn't too late but it is very much possible. Using a small flat head screw driver, I worked around and then underneath the mechanism away from the button. It's just a mild adhesive holding itself to the button.

Won't prying the button off the ribbon cable damage the cable? Can you add low heat to it first?

It's basically a sticker. Just work slowly and carefully.

I were mess it up when trying to detach the flex cable from the plastic home button. Now it does not work. Maybe it is broken somewhere.
