What's gone bad? it stops playing and says HDMI disconnected

PS3 seems to be working fine but then it stops playing, screen goes blank, and the TV says the HDMI is disconnected (nothing touched or moved it). I just bought it used on EBay and might be able to fix it if pointed in the right direction because I'm an electronics technician. thanks
