Battery on MacBook shuts off abruptly after 30% charge is left

Hey,

i just bought a second hand "refurbished" macbook 7.1 13inch. it has a 250gb ssd and 8 gigs of ram in it. i got it refurbished and the battery just got replaced. coconutbattery confirmed that it was the first charging cycle(no idea if they put in a original one but not very likely). i have snow leopard running on it now.

since i got it though it shuts down appruptly between 50% and 30% without a warning or whatever. i tried SMC and PRAM RESET but nothing would help. i m afraid it might be the logic board. i heard there are issues with the charging module or so sometimes. anyone ideas? i tried booting of the cd doning the "intense" hardware check but it came out fine.

thanks

matt

Hi..

I see this a year old post..am facing a similar problem with my Macbook pro retina 15 inch which I bought it used . It shuts down without warning when it reaches 40% after which it only starts when I connect the power cable.

I would like to know how you got the problem fixed... I cant think of spending on new logic board..not finding any answers on the internet as well..

It will be really helpful if you let me kkow what you did to get it fixed...or if its ok to use the laptop keeping in mind that I need to connect the charger before it reaches the 40% mark

Have you tried with a different battery ? It may be a faulty battery problem

@Varun - The site isn't letting me post an answer for some reason :/. but have you tried resetting the SMC? That can usually fix most battery related issues.

Try resetting the SMC - it can fix a bunch of battery related issues.

If your battery is non-removable:

1. Shut down the MacBook.

2. Plug in the power adapter to a power source and to your Mac.

3. Using the built-in keyboard, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time.

4. Release all keys, then press the power button again to turn on your Mac

If the battery IS removable:

1. Shut down the Mac.

2. Disconnect the power adapter from the Mac.

3. Remove the battery.

4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

5. Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.

6. Press the power button to turn on the Mac.
