Why does my screen remains black?

My 20" Apple Cinema Display, model A1038 (M8893ZM/A) remains black despite being powered and recognized by my macbook os 10.6.8.

The screen remains edark despite being on !

Note :

- the screen and connectors hardware work as it was tested with another os X mac notebook

- the macbook card works as video is output correctly onto another external screen using mini-dvi port

Details below :

- the power indicator light is continuously white (indicating power I guess)

- display is recognized by my computer : it appears as a secondary display when running system profiler or hitting detect displays

- however hitting the brightness control (bottom left or using the macbook's brightness control) has no effect

- no sounds heard when screen turns on (duriog the macbook boot)

  • My screen is connected to a macbook 4.1 Dual Core-2 Duo - penryin/early 2008 - A1181 - OS 10.6.8 using :

- on the monitor side, a adco to dvi adapter, model A1006

- connected to the macbook using a using a mini-dvi to dvi, model M9321G

I have attempted to use different resolutions 800x500, 640x480 and reset nvram to no avail.

Update

All hardware and connectors are fine by testing screen with another mac computer and testing video mini-div output via with another screen.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Few additional infos :

- The screen and connectors work perfectly fine :tested with mac book pro (mini display) or G5 (dvi).

Also my mini-dvi to dvi adapter works as tested with another external monitor.

There seems to be a specific issue between this macbook Penryn 10.6.8 and the mini-dvi connection to the A1038 Apple Cinema Display !

Screen receives power, macbook detects screen, but no video is displayed. Screen remains black !

Actually, all hardware is fine because the screen and connectors work with a different computer.

My macbook hardware is also fine because the macbook successfully outputs video via mini-dvi to anohter external test screen.

I have added these infos as comments, hope this helps pinpoint another (software related?) solution.

Thanks

It seems that all elements are compatible and we should see video signal from macbook displayed onto Apple Cinema Display. But nothing shows up, a strange issue, maybe driver related ?

Specific to macbook penryn, mini-dvi and ADC connections ?

If you get short-short-long blinking lights, the inverter board failed. Go to eBay and search for 141460414794. It's just under $20. Hope it helps.
