Replaced battery but still hear a whining sound.

So basically I ordered the battery, still no go. Upon further investigation I realised the whining sound is not coming from the Hard drive but around the screen/chipset area. I could be wrong but if it was a bad hard drive shouldn't the whining sound come from the hard drive?

Now that I took the back off I can also see some lights illuminating. Also if I press the centre button the whining sound stops.... Could this be a bad logic board? I don't want to change the hard drive because the only reason I wanna fix this iPod is so I can access the pictures and music on the iPod.

Any suggestions?
