Remove the battery and unplug the laptop now hold the power button down for at least a minute or 2 this will discharge the cmos and purge the memory and give you a clean reboot once you've done this plug in your laptop and put in your battery. Now start your computer. If this does not work tell us and we'll try something else. But with HP laptops this is a common problem

Do I remove the internal battery (flat round 2032) as well?

evanpeh, attach an external monitor to your computer and see if that displays anything. If it does you know that you either have a bad LCD or a bad backlight circuitry. If it does not, you can try what Jimfixer suggest. Should that yield no results you most likely have a bad GPU which would ultimately mean a new board or a new GPU.

If the gpu happens to be done it can be fixed . What you do is tear the computer down to the motherboard removing anything and everything you can then put the motherboard on a oven tray making sure its level and cook it in an oven for 10 minutes at 450F then let it cool before moving . This will reflow the solder restoring the board. Ive done this on a few of Dv series HP laptops with much success

It's a flip chip design and a reflow might temporarily fix it.
