laptop will not turn on (power up or boot)

Hello all and thanks in advance for any assistance!

Recently given the aforementioned laptop by my cousin whose daughter allegedly accidentally spilled water on same.

Tore entire machine apart, no signs of water or any "blue" indicator pads.

Symptoms: power cord/adapter works fine on another MacBook Air,Mag Safe connector shows orange while charging, then goes to green. When same adapter cord is used on the non-starting MacBookPro, MagSafe connector light does not go on or is very very dim almost non existent. However, if you first put connector onto known good computer then onto the non-starting one, the green light comes on brightly which goes immediately to orange as one would expect as if charging the battery.

Is this a symptom of a possibly bad MagSafe board ? When I check the voltage of the MagSafe board while connected to AC power I get 17.21 volts DC from any combination of the four pads on the MagSafe board.

I am a competent tech on PC's but this is my first MAC experience and I'm having a tough time with this one.

Would you first try a new MagSafe board, and if that does not work and machine still does not turn on then replace keyboard with its connected ON-OFF switch, and lastly replace the Logic Board if machine still does not power up? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

First check your battery. It it does not have at least a twenty percent charge the machine will not boot. I have other answers but stick with this machine and question and we can get it going or show you a way out for $320.flat rate.

Thanks Mayer. Tonight after having attempted to charge the battery for several hours overnight, I tried to check the voltage across the first and last terminals of the plug attached to the battery and it appears stone dead. Also, checked the voltages on the MagSafe board and keep getting 16.8 to 17.21 volts on the four pads two of which are ground and the other two the hot side. Having read many of the posts on iFixit regarding voltage readings on the MagSafe board across the 5 pads, I found the following with my multimeter:

pads one and five =0 volts, two and four= 17.4 and the center

iSense pin #3 =0 volts, this with the AC power adapter attached to the MagSafe connector. Also, the LED on the MagSafe connector is NOT lit.

Does this seem to present as a bad MagSafe DC in board?

Thanks!

Hi Mayer.......Problem is NOT fixed! I still am at a quandry as to what to replace, or try to replace first.

My choices appear to first change out the MagSafe board

but before I lay out $24 bucks to iFixit for one, I would really like to know how to determine if the one I have in the machine is actually working. if someone would please send me some instructions as to how to troubleshoot the board I would be able to tell if that is the culprit.

Second would be for me to lay out $18 and change on Amazon and buy a brand new keyboard/with att. on off switch and just swap that out. Lastly will be to have to change out the logic board which is somewhat costly.

Pease advise!

Thanks for all of your assistance.

Let's take a better look at that battery. Download, run and report your finding with Coconut Battery. As a tech, you know that you sometimes have to fight though these problems. http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutba...

Normally you would have a spare battery and spare magsafe and could just swap out to test.

Since you have taken the machine apart, you may have done this— discontect the battery and plug it back in. This has fixed my Mac (which is the same model as yours) when it died.
