Not good ;-{ Sadly it's time for a new unit. But you still have a problem! Why did it die?

You may want to check your house wiring and grounding as it likely got a power surge also do you get bad lightning storms? You do want to use a surge suppressor with it and you do want to make sure the network wiring is not exposed to the weather without getting a network surge suppressor at both buildings or use a fiber optic interconnection between the buildings.

I had this same problem. When you start up, does the light go green for a second, then flashing amber until you disconnect the power? If so, the issue is most likely a dead power supply. These things are known to kill their own PSUs due to excessive heat and poor ventilation. I found a replacement PSU on ebay for around $20, installed it, left the rubber foot off the bottom, and am running my unit upside down (with the vent holes up). Hopefully I'll get more use out of it now.

If you go this route, you might as well take the opportunity to upgrade the hard drive inside to a bigger one while you have the thing open. I went from a 1TB to a 2TB with no issues. Any 3.5" SATA drive will fit just fine. The factory spec is a WD Black 7200 RPM SATA.

Good luck

The fact its Amber implies its getting power. You really need to connect an Ethernet cable to your Mac and run the AirPort utility to see what it tells you.
