Could you elaborate on what the screen looks like? Are there vertical lines running across it? Would you be able to post a picture?

Sounds like you damaged your LCD. It sits below the digitizer glass, so even if the drop didn't damage the Digitizer glass, the LCD is still very fragil. It costs around $50.
