MacBook core 2 duo not passing white apple screen, and shutting off

I have a 2008 White MacBook 13" which is the dual core model 1181 series.

Not too long ago a problem started, whenever I went to turn on my MacBook I would hear loud cranking noises from the inside of the laptop and determined it was due to the MacBook's fan going bad, also the macbook would get pretty warm as well.

Finally, I went to turn the laptop on one day and it did not pass the white apple screen on boot up. So, (thinking better late than never) I switched the fan out correctly following ifixit's guide,

However now the computer will still not completely boot up. the computer will begin to start up and get to the white apple logo screen, and then what looks to be a loading bar will appear below the apple logo and load up and then dissappear. then immidiately after, the same loading bar will reappear again and load up again , and after this second time loading the computer will just shut off , or (crash).

I've tried turning it on numerous amounts of times, smc reset, and also holding shift while booting it as well but none of these seem to work.

I have actually managed to get the computer to not just crash while trying to boot up about once or twice. After the second loading bar has completely loaded and finally dissapears, the computer just sits at the white apple logo screen as if it's trying to go further and fully turn on like normal but it just can't.

Also the loud cranking noises and high temperature from my old fan are completely fixed now, yet for some reason the computer still will not turn on like normal. Also I do hear the start up chime when i turn the power on, I just don't know why it isn't completely turning on! and I've been looking all over!

If anyone is familiar with this problem that I'm having or may even know how I can solve this, PLEASE PLEASE help me! I need all the help I can get on this one.

Thank You , so very much ! ! !

Letting your system run with a bad fan was not healthy for your system. You could have caused greater damage here. For now lets see if we can isolate out what is not working.

Do you have access to a second Mac system which you can connect your system using a FireWire cable? If you do you could try to see if the HD is having troubles but putting your system in Target Mode and then using the other Mac to test and if needed fix your HD.

I don't have a second mac system to connect via FireWire, i'll ask around to see if some friends might have one to help with this problem. Does it have to be the same type of Macbook model that I have, or can it be any mac system? Thanks you for your helpful and quick response(: !

Yes, it can be any Mac system that has a FireWire connection. You may find it has the newer 800 interface but a conversion cable between your 400 tot 800 will work just fine here.

Review this Apple T/N: Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs. To test the drive you'll need to run Disk Utility from the other system to check your drive.
