Not charging or connecting to PC

Hi. I used my ipod as my home hifi so it was more or less in a docking station for 5 years but about a year ago the battery finally just gave up and died. I recently changed the battery and it all fired up with 50% power but now the ipod won't charge in the docking station, connected to my laptop or work pc or via the wall plug. It also doesn't even register when plugged into with PC bug it does play through the docking station.

Any ideas
