The laptop will boot hdd with windows8 but not one with OSX

I have tried all the resets I've found on the web (NVRAM, SMC etc...) None of the resets have worked the screen stays black.

I became curious since nothing was working so I decided to install a hard drive with Windows 8 on it. To my surprise Windows 8 booted perfectly.

I cloned OS-X from another HD I had but it will not boot/start... I also tried to boot off an OS-X installation CD pressing "C" at start up but it will not boot the CD. Strangely, it will boot from a Windows installation CD.

When I try going to the boot selection menu during start up it makes the chime noise constantly @%^ if it were stuck but still a black screen.

Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it? Your help is greatly appreciated!

The formatting on your drive is damaged. You'll need to redo it.

Do you have a bootable external drive setup or have a CD/DVD that came with your system? If not you'll need to create one using a friends Mac.

The easies way is to setup a USB Thumb drive using Disk Utilities. Setup the USB as GUID / Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then using the OS installer install OS-X on to it. You'll need to make sure the OS version you use is 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard) or newer. I would recommend you download from your friends Mac from the App store Yosemite 10.10.x. Copy it over to your Thumb drive as you'll need it to finish the install process.

Once the USB Thumb drive is prepped you can then use it to boot up your system. Hold down the Option key during the boot up to get to the Startup Manager (review this Apple T/N: Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs). Then select your Thumb drive. Don't panic! it will be slow in the boot up. Once up launch Disk Utility and this time delete the the current Windows Partition and all the others you'll want to then reset up the drive like we did with the Thumb drive GUID / Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then run the OS installer you copied over to the Thumb drive and install the fresh OS onto your HD.

When I try to go into the boot menu the screen stays black and I keep hearing the "chime" startup noise (as if the laptop were stuck...). The chime noise will not stop until I force shutdown the laptop. The constant chime noise also sounds distorted...thank you for your help.
