iPhone 5c keeps switching from home screen to multitask switcher

iPhone 5c keeps rapidly switching from home screen to multitask switcher without pressing the home button. Almost as if the home button is stuck. When pressing the power button to lock phone or power down it takes a screenshot everytime the power button is pressed. Any ideas on what the problem could be or how to fix it?

How/why/when did this started? What is the history of this phone and this issue? Such as: was it dropped, water damaged, repaired, purchased like this?

by

It's my wife's phone, bought it brand new a little over a year ago was recently lost and then found not sure what happened to during the time it was lost. Took to sprint to get repaired, said it had water damage. Not sure if the problem is related to that. As not been submerged in water to my knowledge.

Follow the iPhone 5C home button flex cable replacement guide until step 8, and test the phone. If the issue stops, it means your home button flex cable is damaged or stuck somehow. May be due to water damage. Then follow the remainder of the steps to replace the home button flex cable.

If your issue remains, it means the damage if further down the line, probably at the level of the logic board. At this point you need to continue till step 13 to completely remove the screen, then examine the visible parts of the phone. You need to look for traces of liquid, corrosion, and water indicators turned from white to red. Let us know if you something of the sort.

Even if your home button flex cable is fixed, have that look. If you see traces of liquid, look for other threads about water damage repair, and follow the repair guides on this website to remove and clean the logic board and other important components. If you are not sure on how to do it, post a separate question.

The Home button may be stuck, have you tried unscrewing the home button and putting it back on the phone and see if that help?

Thanks

I have not tried that. Did not know the home button could be unscrewed. Can that be done without disassembling the phone?
