iPod has a circle wit an x inside
The circle with an x in it has direction below it sending me to support ipod.com. I have done this, downloaded the information and it still does not work.

Try the diagnostics mode for your iPod. You'll find great directions and explanations about the test right here. From your description, it sounds like a bad hard drive.
