New SSHD, how do I install the os?

I recently bought a 2006 macbook pro and it came with no hard drive so i bought a 1tb sshd. If i install it, would it just be a plug n play thing? or do I have to completely install the os? How could I?

Please look in the battery compartment and give us the last three figures of your serial number so we know your exact machine and what operating systems it will take. You will need to format the drive GUID and Mac Extended (Journaled). You may have a Core Duo which will limit what it can take.

UPDATE

Get 10.6 from Apple then you can have Disk Utilities to format the drive and install a system. You can then update it to 10.6.8 or take it to a Maximum of 10.7.5 from the APP store. Here where to get it: http://store.apple.com/us/search/10.6

Update

New harddrive will not show up during install of panther OS X

Your machine had Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.4.8 (8N1037) Maximum MacOS:10.7.5*:http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ma...

yeah but won't a new hard drive affect the pre-install? isn't the os installed on the hard drive?

by

That was on the original hard drive. Your new drive will have nothing on it.
