How does software on an iPod get corrupted

Basically when you replace the lcd or the front or back housing, how does the software get corrupted. I have repaired x5 iPods, lcd or back or front housing, fairly simple jobs.

x1 now only shows a white screen

x1 shows error 1415

x1 does not show up in itunes or computer

x1 freezes the whole computer, when removed everything works

x1 is repaired and working fine

I am just wondering why I am getting these software problems, obviously I am doing something wrong?

I posted a pretty large answer in your other question

since you asked the "software corrupted" question also in this one. so a only lik to my other question.

but the problems you are describing are partly related to that.

  1. have you tested the lcd with the white screen in a different iPod ? - the lcd's are sometimes simply dead
  2. try to restore the iPod with the 1415 error on a different usb port/computer - is the itunes version up to date ?
  3. the iPod that does not show up - does it switch on? make a hard reset and put it in disk mode - then try it again
  4. the one with the freezing problem - check all connections inside the iPod, also check the dock connector - sometimes a contact is bent and shorts the iPod and the computer
  5. nice that 1 is working, but it would be better when all 5 would work as they should
