English: Hello, I'll try to be brief but I am very confused.

My brother has left me a Macbook Pro A1261 17" 250 HD 4GB RAM Core Duo.

It had fallen but still worked well. One day it would not start, My brother took it in to be repaired by Apple, they told him it would cost 500 euros and needed to leave it.

I've tried the regular things. I charged the battery and turned the screen on some lines or vertical patterns like pink and / or oranges and the definition was very poor, the chime sounds and leaves the block starts charging per the dial stops and turns the light on the keyboard by pressing keys a beep sounds.

While I can't start the test hardware or other option. I pulled out the RAM and turn it on I got 3 beeps sound. Change the RAM back and starts as before and catches.

As I have a MacBook Pro 13" unibody I swapped out my hard drive and then it starts normally and the screen goes well wait and soon to turn off the screen, but the keyboard keys lights up but the definition has again as before very pixelated noticeable as one vertical lines. Swapping my drive back It started with OS X Mavericks and all is well.

Connecting the MacBook pro 17" to an external monitor and the image on it is perfect. I figured that since I had installed bootcamp with Windows could be a problem so clean format and install OS-X Lion and put back your disk in MacBook pro 17 and nothing happened ?? the same as at first time with pink vertical patterns on the screen.

Can someone help me, is the RAM, hard drive or the motherboard bad

But then because it works with my drive and the screen worked well and then not.

Thank you very much and sorry for the dwell just trying to give detail. Good by!

English: Swapping your MacBook Pro's hard drive between the two systems while a good idea, sadly won't work here. The age of the 17" MacBook Pro won't allow you to use the newer OS-X your 13" MacBook Pro has on it (Mavericks 10.9.x). Your 17" model can support upto Mac OS-X 10.6.x "Snow Leopard". Your system's CPU can't run the newer 64bit OS.

You talk about the external monitor working without the pink and/or oranges and pixelated image with your 17" MacBook Pro is that correct? Or, were you using the 17" MacBook Pro's hard drive in your 13" MacBook Pro connecting it to the external monitor?

See if you can get a OS-X 10.6.x CD to boot up your 17" MacBook Pro. You may still need to connect the external display to your MacBook to see the screen if it is able to boot up with the CD and the external monitor looks OK you then know the laptop's display is damaged.

Hello! Thanks for interest and answers, few points:

1: the 17 mac runs well with my 13"mac hdd on mavericks. The 13" mac runs well with the 17"mac hdd on leopard. But the 17"mac dont start up with his own hdd.

2: i tried to start up pushing cmd, d, c, shift, nothing happened. I have an usb memory bootheable with osx lion but i can't start from it.

3: as i saw other case probably 1 ram slot its faulty. I think the mac received a peak of power and damage little components. So i should try with new ram and hdd and still got the risk of a logic board faulty so i think there is nothing to do because i gonna spend more money than worth the old mac.

Like last shoot i will interchange the hdd and try to do the hardware test

English: If swapping the drives allows the 17" to work then you need to look at the specs of the 17" HD and compare them to your 13" system. It sounds like the SATA I/O sped is the issue then. Still don't understand the odd video you see on the 17" unit can you explain more fully.

I don't understand too the video problem. But that's why i think there's any problems in the logic board. Once it start with the 13hd the video was ok and repeat it was running maveriks. But go to sleep and when it return the odd video come back. Its like low definition or pixelated. And also the problem With one ram. Thanks for interes. I leave it don't believe in an easy solution.

English: While it may appear Mavericks works its not stable for this system (17") as the systems firmware is not 64bit. So I wouldn't put too much into that. First get 10.6.x Snow Leopard installed on the 17" HD and see where things are then.

#Louis rossmann, whats your problem? We're here to fix a problem no matter the machine. And your useless comment its in the waste like your brain.... Thanks.

by

There is no fix. You can only replace the GPU with a used reballed one so it can die again in less than a month, because new ones stopped being available years ago. Just because it is not the answer you want to hear doesn't mean it is not an answer! But go ahead and try it for yourself, and you will see.
