Did you ever fix the issue? I disconnected it because I read the instructions online that way. I should have just followed the youtube videos and taken the whole housing off but I thought I'd be better off doing it "step by step". Now I need to find a way to reattach it.

I know this post is really old, but, it is pretty hard to break the gold cable itself. When it is disconnected, you may think it is broken because there is nothing on the end other than a silverish looking piece .... no connector per se. That silver piece just slides back into the white connector part that is part of the formatter board. It can be difficult. Either use a long needle nose pliers to hold the cable up the gold cable a bit from the silver tip.... or, carefully extend the cable out a bit. Mine had a piece paper glued to it with a part number or something... I was able to get that through the opening to give me at least another inch of cable to play with. it just slides into the connector.
