In most cases with sony laptops if you hold alt and f10 right after you power on it will start the recovery process.

Now-a-days laptops and PCs are built with a part of the hard drive that is allocated for recovery.

Gone are the days of recovery CDs my friend.

You CAN create a password recovery USB. But that's a Windows OS thing.
