Chosen Solution

The headlamp fails to turn on after rotating the lens piece to the on position. If this is the problem, either the batteries may be drained or defective and will need to be replaced or the 3V incandescent bulb has burned out and will also need to be replaced.

Problem Remains Unresolved

If replacing the batteries and bulb fail to remedy the problem the circuitry of the headlamp may be fried. If this is the case, the headlamp is unsalvageable.

Every time I’ve had this problem it has been solved by removing corrosion from the copper terminals. With a pocket knife, scrape the contacts until they are shiny again, including the contact under the lightbulb. I also bend the contacts out slightly.

I added some tin foil on the negative pole of the three batteries, a hack I learned researching why my Mac keyboard kept failing to connect. I was about to throw it away and now it works fine.
