Why my iPhone 5c is never on time?

Hello,

My girlfriend bought an iphone 5c but we realize that it has a really annoying problem : the time on the phone is changing regularly.

Most of the time the date is right, but from one second to another it can be several hours late of early.

We tried to reset it and to change the battery and tried to switch on and off the automatic time setting, but the problem is still the same : the phone is never on time.

I have been reading about this problem a lot with no real answer to find, i got a 5c here with the same issue.

Tried different carriers, connected to wifi, soft reset, wiped phone, changed battery, still the clock seems to have a mind of his own.

Sometimes the clock freezes up when you lock the phone... sometimes! It's pretty d*mn annoying, could this be a hardware problem with the clocking device on the motherboard? I can't think of anything else by now.

Mine is messing up too. When it's 6:37 it says that the time is 6:16 and other times. I have reset the phone, turned it off, anything that won't get rid of everything. I've reset the clock 5 times and it fixes it for about 5 minutes. Then it messes up. Please help. I can't tell the time and my alarm didn't go off this morning. I was almost late and I could only change my clothes this morning. I forgot half of my school stuff at home. I can't go on like this.

Sincerely,

Ashlyn Elkins

Owner of an iPhone 5c since August 2015

Very odd...

Your phone uses the cellular network to check its time from time to time, unless you can't connect, in which case if you have a WiFi connect it will leverage the internet time service, then lastly it will use the phones internal clock for its time.

What can also happen is your location were you are is near a time zone border, so the iPhone is confused on which TZ you are really in based on the physical location.

I'm sure there's no hardware on the device that has anything to do with the clock

Although this "can" be the issue.

There is a documented Apple hardware issue. Please scroll down for details.

I have the same ussue with my Phone 5C.

- Date & Time dont work & reboot Problem.

- Bluetooth dont work

First i changed Y2 than the clock start to work but when the Phone is in sleep mode or Off than the clock dont work. If the Phone is unlocked the clock work.

By the way the Y2 component is the same for iPhone 5/5C/5S. In my case I took it from iPhone 5 faulty mainboard.

The next step i reball U7 especially in the area near C255 underneath left side corner from U7 and now every thing is working fine.

Mise à jour (02/10/2016)

to change the crystal oscillator Y2 32.768K is relatively an easy task but to reball U7 is more difficult and you need a professional technician.

good luck guys !!!

help me please, which tools did you use to change the component y2? where is the c255 component? if i replace the component y2 my iphone time could work fine? excuse my English i speak spanish

by

as tools you need hot air station. At first change Y2 then post hier the result to help you.

by

if Time dont work at all then change the crystal oscillator Y2 32.768K.

To change the crystal oscillator you need good cover the other neighbor chips then heat Y2 with hot air for about 5 seconds and remove it vertically with almost no force.

All I know is the iPhone 5s/5c are junk I hade an iPhone 4s there was nothing ever rong with it. As soon as I switched to the iPhone 5s the Clock/Gps/Bluetooth/HotSpot/ all that stuff never works. Can only use portrait screen, sometimes the screen just flips black and that comes back on. If anyone is rating the iPhone 5s rate it 0000000 zero zero!!!!!!!! The iPhone 6s Plus is a rate level from 1 to 10. It's a 10 anyone else think so???

before you got to such drastics steps, is your wifi working with other devices(ie strong signal) as many things like the environment can affect wifi range and strenght.

You need to replace it, get a donor off of a broken board and put it on the new board.

Replace the U7? Is this chip not have a fixed basedband code thing? what about the capacitors c263 and c251? Thanks for replay y the way.

I think most people with iphone 5/5c/5s are going through the problem of unstable wifi, no bluetooth, messed up clocks and the gps. No one has given/can find a legitimate answer. For the time being, change the clock manually and never lock your screen (auto lock on never) because the clock freezes when its on the lock screen and works on the home screen. And for the wifi, i guess you'd have to be quite patient because my iphone 5c connects than a minute later disconnects so you constantly need to connect to the wifi.

UGH SOME APPLE GOD PLEASE COME DOWN AND HELP US THROUGH THIS NIGHTMARE WITHOUT SPENDING MONEY ON A NEW PHONE!!! :(:(:(:(

hope this kinda helps

The problem is well know, it is a component on the logic board that has to be replaced (Y2 Quartz).

It's micro soldering... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EKB2yEh...
