When I am in a phone call I cannot hear the person on the other end; however they can hear me. All of the other normal phone noises still occur. I can also hear a phone call when the phone is on speakerphone. It's only through the normal speaker that I can't hear.

Your front speaker may be compromised. Since other sounds still come out of the rear speaker, it's probably not a software issue. If no sounds come out of the front speaker, you probably have to replace it. There's a guide to help with that on the device troubleshooting page.
