Any MXM card for replacement?

Hi there!

I was currently looking for a new GPU for my iMac.

The current one is Geforce Gt120 -256Mb.

Well while i was looking for a new one my friend told me he succesfully replaced his old GPU from his iMac with a MXM card from a laptop.

Can this really be true?

I mean i cant really see how the drivers and others stuff can communicate with the incompatible GPU.

Has anybody tried this?

Im close to just buy a old MXM card from Ebay and replace it just to try.

Yes, Apple used a MXM card (Mobile PCI Express Module) in many of the early iMacs.

Sadly, you can't just put in any MXM card in. You will need to stay with the ones Apple has used. Here's a good reference: MXM Upgrade and another one: An Apples-to-Apples Comparison of MXM Notebook Graphics Cards.
