coffee damage, torn down, dried out, now not charging.

Hello,

Coffee spilled into my backpack and got into my laptop. After drying it out in rice for a week, I started it up, it was charging and working (trackpad, etc) but the keyboard was not working.

So, I did some ifixit reading, bought the tools and took it apart. It looks like there was water damage on the trackpad (one dot is red there) and the I/O board just looks ugly, but everything else looked fine. I put it back together, and now nothing. It will not take a charge, and it will not start up.

So, should I scrap it? I can't afford a new one.

Should I buy a new I/O board and trackpad?

Can someone recommend a better option (a reasonable repair person/company).

The insides are pretty cut and dried, but I'm not sure if I should sink more money in parts or if there's a way for someone to do a diagnostics on it to see what's not working.

Thank you so much in advance!

Answer this question I have this problem too

This is the DIY help form - that means ''you do it yourself'' - we only give Answers you could take it some place and get an estimate (Apple).

You can run the numbers on a new DC in/out board and top case.

You can do that, or, sell it for parts and take that $ plus what you'd have spent on repair and buy a new laptop.

Rice alone is not a "fix" for liquid spills, but it does dry things out rather well. If not cleaned corrosion may continue to worsen over time.
