Whats the difference between a broken seal and old washers?

My machine is not producing carbonated beverages, I have had this machine for a long time and have had no problems. My CO2 tank is full and I can not determine any other issues.

This problem could be caused by either worn out washers or a broken air tight seal. The main difference is that a whooshing noise will be heard if the air tight seal is broken. Try carbonating a beverage and listen very carefully; if the air tight seal is broken the noise will emit from the adapter.​

our Sodastream works well, however the seal at the top of the bottle entry leaks and water "blows by "

and leaks down the bottle and makes a mess.

I cannot find a replacement gasket online???
