Replace A1297 Anti-glare screen with Glossy screen

Hi

I have a 2011 17" A1297 MacBook Pro with Anti-glare screen at the moment. The screen is broken (as the wife calls it Japanese artwork on the screen).

I was going to replace the screen, but an potential easier alternative has come up.

There is an entire top section (so screen, back shell etc) that belonged to the same model 17"MBP and also hi-res, only difference is it's a Glossy screen.

Am I simply able to remove the connectors, screws etc and replace the entire top half of the MBP with this? or were the tops of a Anti-glare different?

Cheers.

There is two different series of this model. Can you give us the last four digits of the serial numbers for both so we can make sure they are compatible.

My laptop serial number ends in K8YB. Can you tell me if mine has the anti-glare screen?

Jeff, "The standard configuration of this model has an LED-backlit 17.0" widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display (1920x1200 native resolution), but it also was offered with an "anti-glare" (matte) display". here is the compatibility for the anti-glare LCD:"

MacBook Pro 17" 2.4GHz Core i7 (A1297) - Late 2011

MacBook Pro 17" 2.53GHz Core i5 (A1297) - Mid 2010

MacBook Pro 17" 2.5GHz Core i7 (A1297) - Late 2011

MacBook Pro 17" 2.66GHz Core i7 (A1297) - Mid 2010

MacBook Pro 17" 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo (A1297) - Mid 2009

MacBook Pro 17" 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo (A1297) - Mid 2009

The Glossy LCd is part number 661-5963 and is compatible with subfamily Early 2009, Mid-2009, Mid-2010, Early 2011 and compatible Model No. MB604LL/A, MC226LL/A*, MC024LL/A, MC725LL/A,.

They are interchangeable.

Thank you so much for this! It actually helped me choose a particular model and not worry about the glossy display I didn't want because I have one of the other models on the list with a matte display which is in beautiful condition despite the laptop being dead. Just wanted to voice my appreciation =)

The easiest way to tell is the screen surround.

The matte / anti-glare has a silver border, the glossy screen is surrounded by black.
