My laptop has the dreaded black screen. Yes, the fan is going to I am sure it is turning on properly. I tried the power down, remove the battery, old down the power key for 60secs, plug back in and power it. Unfortunately this is day three and still nothing. Before I spend a ton of money, is there another fix it solution I should try?

When you reboot do you literally see nothing on the display, as in no Toshiba splash screen, etc.?
The first thing I'd try is removing and re-seating the memory, because you may get lucky, however it truly sounds like your problem is a GPU failure. Try connecting to an external monitor and see if you get anything out of the VGA or HDMI port... and failing all that, time to call Toshiba for warranty service.
