sd card slot problem

My Asus Zenbook Touch UX31A SD Card slot has stopped working. I tried updating the driver but that didn't work. I found if I stick the card in and out sometimes it works briefly.

Do I need to replace it? If so it is something I can do? I have a lot of experience with fixing desktops but not lap tops.

Where would I get the part?

thanks

Hello,

I just had the same problem with my Zenbook UX303LB.

Solved it as follows (I just translated this, hope you find what I mean):

  1. Start Devicemanager (Windows Key + R, devmgmt.msc, run)
  2. Searched for the Device with the 'problem sign'
  3. Right Click and Update Driver
  4. Search manually
  5. Choose from a list of drivers
  6. Select USB MassStorage Device
  7. Next

Solved it for my system, hope it will help you as well! :)

Cheers!

Hi @dangelo_r12,

Type devmgmt.msc in the box that appears after you press Win +R and then press OK.

Device Manager will open, follow the procedure above.

Open the laptop as per instructions from the UX31A keyboard guide. Make sure the ribbon cable that spans the CPU fan is properly seated on both ends. If this does not work, the replacement board is separate from the motherboard and is usually called the "IO board" or "media board".

I have two Asus laptops that did the same thing I lost the SD card device all I did was to remove the SD card and replace it with a different card, it worked. Then I removed the card and replaced it with the original card and it worked.

Very odd.

Put in a different card, then right-click the card and click eject before removing it. You'll be able to put the same card in again and it'll work fine.

Could try in device manager to select the card under drives, then right click for properties, and under policies select “better performance”
