Only edge no 3g signal

Hi,

In my area signal is always full with 3g on other phones but my iphone 3gs taking only egde also full signal but no 3g signal at all.

Tried with restore as new also tried with jailbreak and some advices no luck phone take only edge signal.

What can be wrong?

Take it 3G is turned on and make sure the sim can also recieve 3G (old sim maybe)

sim is ok 3g is turned on. i jailbreak the phone and tried to force only 3g data but im not getting singal, phone is in loop searching->no service->searching->no service all time when i turn off 3g from settings and turn on full 5 bars and edge. tried with only official carrier here witch is t-mobile same story only edge jailbroken or not.

Restored last night setup as new tried again all from above same only edge.

Is edge and 3g reception controled by the same chip or whatever can it be hardware fault ?
