Newer models may not/will not start without a ~15% battery charge. You may have to replace the battery. You may need a new charger/or DC-in board. How and why it stopped charging may be more of the problem than a bad battery.

This is not a good starter DIY project. It entails almost complete disassembly and reassembly of the machine. Start by purchasing the recommended tools for disassembly (every job is easier when you use the proper tools) and STUDY (not just "read" or "look at") the disassembly guide & comments for your exact machine. Keep all the parts identified and separate (securing screws with double sticky tape on sheets of paper with notes or pictures helps),

Look at the tags at right for a better idea of what you may need to do.

thanks. i sent it in for diagnostic with bestbuy where i bought it. i figured i'd see what they said, and if it's manageable, try to put new parts in myself. the tech said it may be the charging port, which, unfortunately is attached to the motherboard thus requiring replacement of the mb, which i understand is huge expense. not too encouraged here.

thanks again.

You have a good plan... FWIW the DC-in board can be replaced but it is an advanced project. Start with all the recommended tools, Study the guide and notes (not just "read" them) if you decide to attempt this.
