Cable falls out and does not stay connected

After owning my iPod for a few years the charging/connecting cord does not "snap" into place like it used to and now falls out quite easily. I have tried different cords but still has same issue. Is there some sort of prongs I can manipulate to retain the cord or is something needing to be replaced?

Ian, since you tried different cords without success, it sounds like your dock connector is failing. On this particular model, the connector is soldered to the logic board. Not an easy task to resolder a new one. Either try to keep it the way you have, or get someone to solder a new connector in place, or start thinking about replacing the logic board. Hope this helps, good luck.
