changed battery not working what next?

iPod cycling between sad face icon, very low batt message and apple logo. Changed battery. Same cycling. Can get diagnostics but i do not understand them. Computer does not see iPod at all.

Anyone know how to tell if it is a drive OR a logic board problem with the diagnostics.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

did you try to charge it with the wall charger ?

sometimes the usb port delivers not enough energy to charge the device to the point where it gets recognized by the computer.

had this with lots of motorola razr and krzr - the can be in the "loop" for days

had this also by an iPod mini - only for about 10 minutes - and then it was over the "point"

i would measure the batteries - if the voltage is around 3,7v - i would say that the logicboard could be the troublemaker

Thanks Marcus for reply I did forget to mention that I did connect my pod to the wall charger for half a day and for awhile the LOW BATT message did not appear But it has returned, still with the sad face icon.

I do not have a multi meter at the moment to test BATT voltage, it did get bloody hot when I plugged it into the wall charger. Do you know if the pod diagnostics can help determine if it is the board or the drive?

What did get hot ? - the battery?

The battery, I assume (the back of the iPod) got hot.

a battery should not get hot - it can get warm when charged but hot is wrong. i think the battery was not ok

Thanks again Marcus for replying to this post. The ambient temperature here in France is pretty high at the moment which might explain excessive heat while charging. I am Trying to avoid the hassle of returning batt to usa and getting hold of another. If I can borrow a multimeter what voltage should I see for a healthy batt.

If this proves to be ok is the logic board or drive the next step limited funds make this a crucial decision.
