How do YOU remove Loca glue s3 s4 iPhone 5 5c?

How do YOU remove loca glue when replacing only the glass on a mobile device?

I have tried,

99.9% alcohol on the screen on a iphone 5 lcd but I was careless with it as it was just a quick test of my machine, it works but got into thd lcd I think cause the screen after was all blotched.

Loca remover off ebay, first of all it smells just like the 99.9% alcohol I already use in other repairs! its about 10 quid for 20ml and to honest its pretty sh*t!

I have used those blue plastic "razor blades" they're good for the thick stuff or if you can get a good edge on the glue but useless for the fine layer of loca.

toothbrush - pointless

Fingernail - actually pretty effective!

What do you do/use and how effective is it?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I tried Isopropyl alcohol and GOOFF but I also tried Bluezolution.com from eBay and it works even better

There's a spray called "contact cleaner", used mainly for cleaning connectors on boards, which is fairly inexpensive but highly effective. I use it to remove any glue residue off the LCD's then use an LCD cleaner for shine. Until now I've never had any problems!

Thanks for your reply, I did think about using contact cleaner once. I will give it a go, I just replaced the glass on a iphone 5, once i had the lcd off I used loca remover and 99.9% alcohol to clean it and when it came on now it is all blotchy, would this be because the chemical will have got under the digitizer?

by

When your iPhone looks "funny" after cleaning the LCD/Digitizer with a fluid, you can bet that some fluid made its way into the backlight (several layers of foil) - you can try to very carefully clean the several layers of the backlight (which is pain in the @%^ and easy to break) , or just replace the backlight (needs soldering, but its much faster than trying to clean it)

Yes Contact Cleaner is the best, and Olive Oil 2

Hi guys, what brand of contact cleaner are you talking about, is it any of these? https://www.skroutz.gr/c/928/aksesouar-e...

I work for a big repair shop, we have a lot of money invested into lcd referb equiptment and have a wholesale team in china and we asked them to send us the best oca/loca cleaning liquid, like the stuff factories use. They sent us MOTOR OIL i used it a little and it works alright, they recommend soaking the lcds in motor oil (the additives help eat threw the glue i beleive) then remove the glue and soak again and repeate if nessicary. I never liked it because its time consuming and very messy but it is effective !

We use Gooff to remove the loca glue and it works fine. Take a look at this article on loca adhesive for more info.

Well, I'll try the contact cleaner! The last time on an Alcatel one touch I used the olive oil and it worked a bit slowly but very well. Now it smells like salad but it's ok.

Might as well necropost....

I had to add this answer, the best and only solution after trying all of the above: Xylene.

Buy it at home depot, apply to a paper towel and rub and tap gently.

It smells like the devil's testicles, but it is far and away the best product for removing loca as it evaporates quickly, doesn't leave residue like goofoff and eats through the thickest layers of LOCA and leaves both glass and plastic unharmed.

More importantly, if used in the manner I described, it will NEVER leech into the backlight of an LCD panel (if of course you didn't or couldn't remove the backlight first) and ruin the diffuser like goofoff does (because of its citrusy residue)

Obviously you shouldn't submerge it in the stuff and preferably do it with an extraction hood to get rid of the fumes, and wear appropriate chemical resistant gloves.

I am looking into this solution and im just wondering would you recommend this over 50/50 iso and distilled water and do you have to dilute the Xylene?

its a lot cheaper to buy than iso so thinking about giving it a go

Use a hairdryer to soften the glue, then use stp carb spray to remove residue. Works a treat and don't bugger the lcd.

I use toilet paper with a little bit of goo off on it. Circular motion/patience. Works better than qtips, razor blades or toothbrushes. Dabeing the toilet paper lessens the chance of seepage in lcd

Get Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner.

I spent an hour trying to use Rubbing Alcohol, remembered I have some MAF cleaner in my room and it took all the glue off in about 5 seconds. No damage just a sparkly clean ass LCD.

MAF cleaner is sold at any auto parts store and its pretty cheap. Just spray it onto a paper towel and rub away. This could have saved me hours had I thought of it sooner.

Trying IPA now, also have tried acetone but it murders the polarizer resulting in a pretty but useless sheet of glass.

I've had some success reattaching Z axis taped flex as well, this is feasible but incredibly finicky and only worthwhile if you have lots of faulty screens spare with this problem.

A useful tip here is to get the chibitronics kit as it has the correct kind of tape, there is a preferred axis but once stuck and heat treated it should be as good as the "correct" sort.

I've also used this with good results to extend flex cables before as long as the repair is then encased in silicone or something similar so it can't bend nor skew.

Update (10/02/2016)

Its actually an OLED on the Note 4, also have found that some of the newer ones are plastic not glass.

Pretty sure that these are only used on the curved units though.

91% Isopropyl Alcohol, my finger, and a microfiber cloth did wonders on my Note 4 LCD. You rub the thicker glue off with your finger then us e the Alcohol and the microfiber. First try and my glass only replacement on my Note 4 went very well. $22 in parts vs. $250 for a "safe" repair.

Kudos to ER Cellutions for enough guidance to get me through it. My screen was shattered. The solution was patiently removing each shard with using playing cards, keeping it hot with a heat gun throughout. I went through almost a whole deck. :)

Lots of small cracked glass makes it a lot easier to separate it from the LCD which is a good thing as it reduces the chance of cracking the LCD.
