swapping hard drives in iPods

I have an old iPod that i yanked off of the 30 pin in my car and it ruined the connection point on the iPod. I have removed the HD and need to buy a replacement housing, can I put it into a smaller GB unit (i.e. 80GB) if mine is 160GB or are the units smaller?

vaughn, the 5th Gen iPod is not a Classic, but a Video. That series went up to 80GB hard drive only. The "Classic" series (6th gen) original went up to 120GB and subsequently to 160GB. Yes you can use a smaller drive for as long as the drive series is the same.
