Acer aspire one d255 says no bootable device insert boot disc

When powering up screen says " check cable connection pxe-mof exiting intel pxe rom. No bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key. Do not have a disk and if I press a key the same message repeats over again any ideas

philip quayle, this is most often caused by a failed hard drive because of software (MBR) errors, or physical failure of the drive. You can try and enter the BIOS on startup and see if your BIOS can see the drive at all. You could also set the BIOS to start from either USB or optical drive and use a startup disk, i.e. Live Linux CD etc. and see if you can access the drive from there. Of course, you do want to make sure that your drive cable is properly seated. If you can not access (most likely) your drive, you will have to replace the drive as well as your OS if you do not have the Acer startup /restore disk.
